About Samantha

Since February 2025, I have been working as a Student Website Developer for the Community-Engaged Food and Environmental Justice Studies Hub at UMD, and I will continue this role through May 2025. I lead the website's UX/UI design and development to showcase research and promote community collaboration. I create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that prioritize accessibility and usability. Using stakeholder feedback and research insights, I design a platform that effectively communicates the Hub’s mission and fosters engagement around food and environmental justice. This experience allows me to apply my UX design, web development, and problem-solving skills to a meaningful, real-world project.

A PASSIONATE AND CREATIVE INDIVIDUAL ON A JOURNEY THROUGH THE WORLD OF GRAPHIC DESIGN

I have a deep interest in UI design and am committed to pursuing a career in this field. I will be taking a UX design class this semester and a UI-focused class next fall to build a solid foundation. In addition, I am considering enrolling in Google’s online UI bootcamp to earn a certification in the meantime, which will further enhance my technical knowledge and skill set. Alongside this, I plan to continue refining my graphic design skills to ensure I have a strong visual foundation to draw from when creating user interfaces. I’m excited to combine my passion for design with these learning opportunities and am eager to apply what I’ve learned in real-world projects.

I started at The University of Minnesota Duluth in the Fall of 2021. After a year of exploration, I found a strong urge to sample Graphic Design.

Fall 2022 I became Pre-Graphic Design and fell in love with it all. I love creating digitally and having full freedom to change whatever I want about my design. I find so much passion in using Canva and the Adobe Creative Suites such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro to create visual concepts.

Over the past two years, now going on three, I have found joy in school and becoming educated in the world of design.

I am very eager and excited to graduate and have my world become even more immersed in Graphic Design. Since joining the program late, I will be expected to Graduate in May 2026.

Education

Over the past three years, I have gained experience in all Adobe Creative Suites. Focusing on logos, posters, collaging, infographics, and illustrations.

As of Spring 2025, I am currently enrolled in Graphic Design 3, Typography 2, Interactive Design 1, and Drawing 2. All focus on expanding Graphic Design knowledge, branding, typography, and UX systems.

I also am minoring in Digital Media, Literature, and Design Studies. This interest stems from wanting to be more educated on how to use text in design. I felt having an education in Graphics balanced with how to use information to create the most efficient design would be of great benefit to me.

As a 4th-year student, but a 3rd-year graphic design student at the University of Minnesota Duluth, I've embarked on an exhilarating exploration of visual communication, art, and technology.
